In this episode, we elaborate on the question how a company can keep it's purpose alive in the long run. Responsible, honest and open communication, based on ongoing reflection, plays a key role:

  • Business leaders play an active role in communicating purpose: A clear vision combines with a clear purpose and the associated value.
  • Beyond «purpose washing», the question is how to really make purpose meaningful and effective. Our point is: It happens when individual purpose matches the business purpose.
  • Purpose gets serious in the process of decision making, because that's where purpose gets concrete and visible by limiting options: Rather than deciding on too many things that you can't realize anyway, purpose creates a natural focus on impactful decisions.
  • Another way of communicating effectively is having purpose topics on weekly management meetings or team meetings, as a standard routine and action item.
  • Also, communicating the hurdles that you were able to overcome with purpose and team spirit, will create resonance.
  • In addition, we recommend ongoing purpose reflection: With today's VUCA world, it's actually necessary to daily reflect on how that purpose can help actually to better get on with this rapidly changing situation.
  • Key questions then become: What does it mean for us today? How do we work together in the light of the purpose and of the actual challenges that we see?
